Last week, I completed two dishcloths using single stitch. I used the yarn and crochet tool that can be found on my materials page. I will also be uploading pictures of my work so far on my progress page (Check Home for My Progress button).
I started my first dishcloth with high hopes since I had already completed one in 8th grade, but it did not end up looking the best. As I made progress, I improved on making my crochet tighter and more consistent. This led to an awkward trapezoid shape. The cloth I created in middle school was also a trapezoid shape, but it had neater rows than the works I have done recently. On the second cloth, I tried to focus more on keeping a neat square shape. I achieved that goal, but my rows were still not as nice as the cloth I made in the past. Moving forward, I plan to try one final dishcloth square to complete my practice and improve my crochet skills before attempting other projects.

So far I have learned how to do basic crochet. I was taught by Simply Daisy on YouTube. I now know how to use single stitch to make simple projects.
I started by trying to crochet two rows and the results are not too pretty, but after many attempts I have improved. I am not completely satisfied with my skills due to my lack of consistency throughout and my trouble crocheting the correct way. Over the past week I have my first project, a dish rag or cloth, halfway finished. My first project with crochet, assigned to me in eighth grade, was a dish rag. I plan to gauge my skill level and compare my work today to that of two years ago. My goal is to learn how to crochet and use those skills to create accessories such as blankets, hats, and bandanas.
In eighth-grade art class, we learned to crochet and made a washcloth as part of a project. At first, it was confusing and tedious, but it soon became relaxing. I no longer remember how to crochet, but it would be fun to learn again. Also, many people do not know how to crochet by hand anymore. I will buy my supplies, and I will learn how to crochet from a channel on YouTube. I will then practice bettering my skills every two to three days until I feel comfortable. After that, I will craft a large blanket for the remaining time until the end of the semester and possibly complete other projects. While making my blanket, I will take photos to capture my progress. I will make a timeline to ensure I finish my project in a timely manner. I may also bring in the finished blanket when I present my work to the class. |
